Hi-line turntable construction - April 2004

Shhhhh. Looks like Foreman Frank's taking a quick nap after tacking the shack together.

"Yuk, yuk!" laughs Jim.

Foreman Frank wakes up and goes "Hmmmmmm...?!"

The Shack

Same job, another day, a different shirt. Jim uses a radial drill to drill and tap 1/4-20 holes
for mounting the skirts to the table. Frank had welded blocks to the side of the table.

It's beginning to look like a turntable bridge.

Now the shack is in place and there are walkways on either side. We made those from 3" wide
sheet metal with expanded metal tacked on top. The edges are finished with more angle iron.
Expanded metal between the rails finishes off the look and will let oil. water and ashes fall
through. From this end view you can clearly see where the locating pins protrude at the end
of the bridge. One is for aligning 3-1/2" gauge track, the other for 4-3/4".

The end of day three on Easter weekend. Some holiday but we got a lot done.

Here's a retouched version to show what it will look like with the sheetmetal sides.

After a very long weekend...
